All you need to know about this upcoming year for AU

The AU: Where LSE Comes Alive
If you think LSE lacks a social life, chances are you haven’t come across the AU, LSE’s Athletics Union. I’m Dev, the President, and I’ll take you through a bit about what we do and what you should look forward to this year.

The AU is essentially an umbrella organisation for sports at LSE, covering over 40 sports clubs and thousands of members. Our main goal is ensuring that clubs have the support they need to go out and compete, be that on the pitch, the court or in the pool. However, the AU is about much more than just winning; it’s about breaking down barriers to university sport, giving students the confidence to try something new and helping them build a close-knit community along the way. And yes, we’re also the ones keeping LSE’s social life afloat…

Sway
The spiritual home of the AU every Wednesday. Win or lose, this is the place to regroup with your clubs, let off some steam and dance the night away to some absolute bangers! To keep things fresh, we team up with societies like HandsOff, ACS and RAG for themed nights, from ReA-Union to Halloween, so no two Sways are ever the same.

AU Welcome
The place where it all begins. Held in the first week of term, it brings together members new and old to kick off the year in style. We transform the Venue (buried underneath the SAW building) into a buzzing nightclub with clubs dressing up in fancy dress costumes, a live DJ and a photographer capturing all the fun.

Carol
The light at the end of the tunnel. On the first Friday of December, members gather for a day (yes you read that right, a whole 24 hours) of festive chaos. Unlike anything you will have ever heard of, Carol has clubs roaming throughout London in costumes, pints in hand and laughter on their lips. It’s messy, ridiculous and yet legendary – just the perfect way to celebrate the end of term!

Fight Night
The night where it heats up. Held in the second term at York Hall, the grassroots of British boxing, it sees amateur boxers from different clubs stepping into the ring to make their clubs proud. As you cheer from the stands and soak up the electric atmosphere, expect fierce rivalries and unforgettable moments. This is one night you do not want to miss.

AU Ball
The night to remember. Celebrating sporting achievements in black tie, the AU Ball is a toast to a year of hard work, unforgettable memories, and the people that make it all worthwhile. Expect a grand venue, amazing food and plenty of wine, making it the perfect way to end the year.

Whether you’re here to compete at the highest levels of university sport or looking for new-found experiences, try something new. The AU has something for everyone. From weekly Sways to unforgettable events like Fight Night, it’s where LSE sport and university social life really come alive. So, come make memories and live the AU experience to the fullest, because if you think LSE has no social life, you clearly haven’t met the AU yet.

What exactly is the AU? This year's AU President Dev introduces the society and the flagship events that they run.
