We are delighted to announce that 17 new societies have launched this academic year, alongside 6 that have been revived. With now over 250 groups, ranging from culture to sport, LSE’s Students’ Union encourages students to take the initiative in starting societies based on their own interests and goals. This year’s new arrivals include Music Production, African Leadership, Indian Classical Performing Arts, Fantasy Premier League, Tea, Programming, and many more.
The Beaver asked some of the new societies to share their initiatives and goals for the year ahead. The revived Technology Society say they “connect students with the growing tech and fintech scene in London. We host founders like Tom Blomfield (Monzo) and Martha Lane Fox (lastminute.com), run events with leading tech companies, and build a community for the technologically curious.”
Also newly revived, Tea says that “our society explores global flavours, processing methods, and leaf varieties. Beyond mastering connoisseurship, we uncover rich tea cultures and history; find pure jouissance in every carefully brewed cup”.
The new Prediction Markets Society describes their journey: “Over the past year, we found ourselves talking about prediction markets more and more. We followed the twists and turns of Kalshi and Polymarket, along with some genuinely interesting and promising use cases. As we watched coverage grow in the financial press, academics began writing about it, and legitimate financial institutions started adopting prediction markets, we came to believe this could be a genuine emerging asset class. We looked around LSE, saw there was no society for it, and decided to start one. It sits at the intersection of finance, economics and law – we’d love you to join.”
