Lady Gaga’s 100 Dresses in a Room

Not interested in cinema or the Oscars? That’s fine. Here’s your alternative guide that tracks Lady Gaga’s fashion through the awards season. Mother Monster went fierce this season, hoping gown after elegant gown would help her make a serious impression in her first film awards campaign. Regardless of whether she wins the Oscar, she’ll certainly be the style queen in the Dolby Theatre.

1) Lady Gaga launched her Oscar campaign the moment she arrived at the Venice Film Festival on a barge. Dressed in a simple and classy black dress, she showed she meant business with her tight curls and fuschia lipstick.

2) Also at Venice, Lady Gaga donned this elegant white dress, with the whole angelic ensemble reminiscent of Marilyn Monroe. This look is one of the last few moments of innocence before the run for the Oscar heats up.

3) But she was far from done. Later that day she graced the red carpet for the premiere of A Star Is Born. Clearly, she had just come from shredding the cotton candy monster and thought its carcass would make a beautiful gown. The power of this dress has already become legend as its beauty and energy was enough to cause a lightning strike during the A Star Is Born screening, bringing the film to a HALT.

4) Fresh from the funeral of all the viewers she eviscerated with her A Star Is Born performance in Venice, Gaga walked the red carpet at the Toronto International Film Festival. The veil is fashionable and functional; it protects our eyes from the mega wattage of her star power.

5) Still vexed by Olivia Colman stealing the Volpi Cup Award for Best Actress in Venice, Gaga brought the fight to Colman’s turf. “Off with her head” she cried at the London Premiere of A Star Is Born, where Lady Gaga went period piece in this stunning, Tudor-esque gown.

6) Through some potent, otherworldly powers Gaga channelled her immense star power into a gown for the Los Angeles premiere of A Star is Born. The most striking feature here is the stunning cape that transforms into a long train. Is she secretly hinting that she wants to be in a superhero film where she gets to defeat evil and the patriarchy with her powerhouse voice?

7) and 8) As A Star Is Born entered international markets, Gaga took to late night chat shows to promote the film. She had a blast playing a theremin with Graham Norton. But more importantly, she spoke out about sexual harassment and misconduct on Stephen Colbert’s show.

9) This is how some international students dress on campus, but none of them hold a candle to Mother Monster and the dead vulture she clasps in her hands – a prop used to intimidate Glenn Close.

10) Matching hair and matching dress – clearly colour has increasing returns to scale. The lilac tint to her updo completes this Disney princess ensemble. Watch her hilarious interview from the night here.

11) But Lady Gaga is a humble deity. With this simple, pale pink Calvin Klein ensemble, Gaga is taking a breath and allowing her competition some chance to catch up. It’s only fair.

12) But her competition was weak and Gaga resumed doing her best Gaga. For the SAG awards, she took an edgier look with darker makeup contrasting with her frayed and pleated white dress. Her leg is out, ready to kick away any competition that tries to get Close.

13) The Hollywood Reporter thought it was a good idea to bring Gaga together with her main competition. It was like feeding lambs to a lioness. Gaga pops in this regal red. But her fellow actresses are also looking stunning. Catch the full group interview here.

14) It’s a good thing Gaga was resting her hand on her hip at the Grammys red carpet. She would need all her strength to hold her three golden gramophones at the end of the night. And again, that leg is ready.

And that’s the last stop on the journey towards The Oscars. We can only patiently wait to see what magnificent costume she wears to collect her Best Original Song award on the night, as well as her outfit for her performance of the soon-to-be-winning ‘Shallow’.

Thank you and good night!
