See you on the Flipside

I sort of fell into working for the Beaver. I spent the entirety of my first year reading it because my friend Isabella, who’d go on to become my flatmate, worked as a staff writer and I was keen to support her.

Shit hit the fan when another friend of mine, Eileen, wrote the Beaver’s most controversial article to date. She told white people to stay in their lane and they were not happy, to say the least.

I’m a bit of a slut for drama so I knew I had to get in on this. I decided to run for Social Editor because after a year of reading the Beaver that was the section I had enjoyed the most consistently.

I love writing satirical pseudo-analyses of LSE’s culture and doing what I can only describe as ‘shitposting on main’ so being a part of the Flipside was perfect for me.

What I didn’t expect is how much I would come to regard the Media Room as my home away from home, and my fellow editors as my found family. There’s not another group of people I’d rather overshare with. I’m mildly embarrassed by how much time I’ve spent in the Media Room skipping class instead of, you know, actually going.

The Beaver managed to bring some semblance of order to my chaotic life. I even do my school work now, sort of, because I have to make time on my schedule to be able to keep up with my responsibilities at the paper.
