Your 2019 musical Advent Calendar, sorted

Advent calendars might be the best thing about December. The childlike joy of getting that daily chocolate is a reminder of home. As you move through each day, take a listen to these songs. Each has been tailor-fitted to the LSE student experience – low student satisfaction – and will provide the ideal soundtrack to your candy shenanigans. Here is ‘Your Advent Calendar For Music That You Probably Haven’t Heard But I Think You Might Like, So I Don’t Know, Try It Out Maybe’ (or YACFMTYPHHBITYML,SIDK,TIOM).

Sunday, December 1st: Lucy – Still Woozy

A good month deserves a good start, and what better way than with a fantastic song.

Monday, December 2nd: Broke – Samm Henshaw

It’s the time of the year where you’re considering sacrificing your train-home-money for more Tuns, and it’s a close call.

Tuesday, December 3rd: Falling For U (feat. mxmtoon) – Peachy!

It’s less than two weeks left at LSE, so it’s time to finally admit to the person you’ve been crushing over for the last four months that you kinda wanna bone – or not … unless?

Wednesday, December 4th: Your Teeth In My Neck – Kali Uchis

Hopefully yesterday went well, in which case the title is self-explanatory. If it didn’t, then I guess sing this as you sob/dance in the shower? We love a good sob/dance at The Beaver.

Thursday, December 5th: Gang Gang Schiele – HYUKOH

Yesterday was a lot. This song will help you chug along.

Friday, December 6th: FUN! – Vince Staples

It’s Carol.

Saturday, December 7th: Jarmin In The Dark – Young Monks

Yesterday was Carol.

Sunday, December 8th: Sunday – Forrest & Biskwiq

If you’ve had a rough week, it’s okay. Take the Sunday off and treat yourself.

Monday, December 9th: Eviction Notice (feat. Kean Kavanagh) – Kojaque

Time for some lovely awkward meetings with the person you may or may not have hooked up with over the weekend.

Tuesday, December 10th: Alright – Mannywellz

Recognize this song? Recognize it?!

Wednesday, December 11th: 6 Summers – Anderson .Paak

It’s a bop, and that’s before the beat switch.

Thursday, December 12th: Peach – Kevin Abstract

Spoiler Alert: there isn’t a single mention of any fruit at all.

Friday, December 13th: Tom & Jerry – Ocean Wisdom

The way he reaches that level on the beat is indescribable.

Saturday, December 14th: 100 Grandkids – Mac Miller

You’re probably going to be talking to your parents at some point during this vacation, in which case the awkward topic of you getting married and having children will come up.

Sunday, December 15th: Man Like You – Tom Misch

I’m going to get a tattoo based on this song.

Monday, December 16th: Gum, Toe and Sole – Gus Dapperton

Duh duh DAH duh duh duh duh DAH DAH.

Tuesday, December 17th: Ninety – Jaden Smith

Despite being an absolute meme, apparently he can actually make music – character development at its finest.

Wednesday, December 18th: North Nights – Slowthai

While you’re sitting snug in your Christmas sweater with a mug of warm tea, play this track to get back to your true roadman self.

Thursday, December 19th: The Seamstress (Tooting Masala) – Loyle Carner

You might be able to convince your mom that this is jazz.

Friday, December 20th: Don’t Wanna Fight – Alabama Shakes

You’ve probably had a few fights with family members by now, and it’s worth popping this tune on to make sure everything’s okay.

Saturday, December 21st: OKRA – Tyler, the Creator

Make sure you get that last gym session in before the big Christmas feasts.

Sunday, December 22nd: Ultimately – khai dreams

Play this song when you have a moment alone.

Monday, December 23rd: Shadow Man (feat. Saba, Smino & Phoelix) – Noname

For a song where everyone talks about their respective funerals, the amount of life in this song is startling (if anyone knows what ‘amaurotic’ means, well done).

Tuesday, December 24th: Dance, Baby! – boy Pablo

It’s the last day, so forget about everything else and dance with your family. Everything’s going to be okay.

Honorable Mentions:

George – Arlo Parks

Vice City – Biig Piig

Selfish (feat. Cleo Sol) – Little Simz

Rum Rage – Sticky Fingers

Delilah – Aeris Roves
