Futsall reviews a popular event they have hosted and invite LSE to look out for their future events!

What an afternoon of World Cup sparks!

With the French society not exactly mimicking their professional counterparts win this year, Israel proving rather difficult to beat, Cyprus going home earlier than expected and Austria almost snatching the win from the Brazilians in the Final; what a time it is to be studying at the LSE !

For the first time ever, on November 30th 2018 , the LSE Futsal Club hosted an official World Cup challenge. LSE’s national societies competed against each other on the futsal pitch for ultimate glory and everlasting honour… and, of course, some very valuable bragging rights.

Teams took on names like France, England, and Brazil competed against smaller countries like Switzerland, Sri Lanka, and Austria. With members of the 1st / 2nd Men’s Futsal team and the 1st Women’s team being spread out through the various national squads, the rivalry and competition was fierce. Unfortunately, Futsal did ‘not come home,’ with England finishing in 3rd place.

In their efforts to promote female participation, the Futsal committee asked every national society to include at least 1 woman player in their squad for the cup.

Combining the love for sports and the need to show flatmates which national society is simply better in every way, the LSE Futsal World Cup Challenge was a jam-packed event, featuring 12 national societies, 80+ diverse futsallers from all over the world, a peep into one of the fastest growing sports in the world, and a trip to the local pub afterwards to solidify indispensable international friendships.

Futsal has grown as a sport on the LSE campus: as one of the youngest sports clubs, the club has rocketed to over 100 members in just three years. Two male teams compete in the Men’s Southern English futsal league (BUCS). And the club has launched a women’s team this year, captained by Emma Guitera. All 3 have had a fantastic start to the season, sitting comfortably at the top of their leagues.

We would like to give a special mention for our Player of the tournament:
-Chris Tesche, member of our 2nd team.

Futsal invites you to look out for future events that they are hosting – guaranteed to be as thrilling as their World Cup.
