LSE alumnus starts initiative to provide free meals to key workers

An LSE alumnus, Bilal Bin Saqib (‘19), is one of the founders of the One Million Meals initiative, which aims to provide free meals to frontline staff and key workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Saqib, who also served as the SU Postgraduate Officer from 2018 to 2019, founded the initiative alongside Suleman Raza, Arif Anis, and Momin Saqib. The charity, working alongside restaurants and delivery services, aims to provide a million meals to key staff such as NHS hospital staff, police, and council workers. LSE Generate, LSE Careers’ entrepreneurship team, has also extended their support to the organisation.

The charity decided to set up a GoFundMe to ask for donations from the public, with Saqib offering the following comment: “So far, One Million Meals has been relying on our team’s resources and the amazing generosity of our sponsors to provide meals to key workers and frontline staff. We have now had over 50 hospitals express interest in our services. However, to meet our increasing demand, we are reaching out to food sponsors & volunteers to help us bring food to the people keeping them safe and healthy.” The fundraiser was created last week, and has raised £15,625 of its £50,000 goal.
