LSESU Dance to hold LT showcase after two years

by Sofia Gerace

After two years without the LT Dance showcase, LSESU Dance is excited to be back with the biggest event held by the society every year. The event will be on 14 March in the Peacock Theatre, and will be open to all those wishing to attend. “The show is called AscenDance 2022 and we did not opt for a specific theme – we just focused on our dancers rising to the occasion after two years of no in–person performances!”, Priya Kalsi, president of the LSE Dance club, explains.

The team had a very successful year and were able to face the challenges caused by lockdown and social distancing. The LSE Dance club went back to in–person classes and events after most of the club had never had experience with dance activities at LSE. “This year was quite challenging as I imagine it was for many clubs, but I am very happy with our achievements”, continues Kalsi. For a team that needs physical encounters and gatherings, it is particularly rewarding to obtain great results in competitions, showcases, and workshops after two long years of Zoom sessions. Kalsi is happy to share with The Beaver that the Dance team raised almost £500 for RAG charities during its Michaelmas Term Showcase in December. Also, the hip-hop crew competed with a team composed by Veritas Chen, June Ting Woo, Mike Losavio, Zhi Yi Yen, Lena Hoedl, Praewkanit Pichayangkul, Natalie Tan, Shivee Singh, and Charmaine Tham, and placed 3rd in their category.

The team is now training in the Weston rehearsal studio, the new space for LSESU Dance in the Marshall Building. “We have a dedicated space for dance with the ballet barres, sprung floor and mirrors – it is a great improvement from the old gym!” concludes Kalsi.

For all those wishing to attend the LT Dance Showcase in the Peacock Theatre, make sure to save the date and stay tuned for ticket information on LSESU Dance social media accounts!
