LSESU Cancels Fight Night

On 16 September, LSE Students’ Union (LSESU) confirmed that Fight Night has been discontinued indefinitely following a review of all major sporting events. 

Primarily, LSESU explained reasoned that “Fight Night has always sat outside the strict regulatory framework established by England Boxing, the sport’s National Governing bBody. This framework includes requirements around participant eligibility, coaching qualifications, medical oversight, and event governance.”

Additionally, Furthermore, LSESU stated that Fight Night participants typically trained for just  have historically entered after six to eight weeks 6-8 weeks of training before competing, considerably less lower than England Boxing’s recommendation of 18 months to two years, as outlined in their 2025 report.

While Whilst LSESU’s senior leadership acknowledged that Fight Night’s cancellation “would disappoint students”, they emphasised reassured that this decision was not a reflection on the LSE Boxing Club, which who had “successfully run” well-received Fight Nights in recent years. LSESU They further added that they were “committed to support the club’s development and explore ways for its members to compete in the future”.
